Kung Fu (Wushu)

Wushu is a Chinese word which consists of two hieroglyphs “wu” and “shu” and is traditionally translated as “military, martial art”.
Wushu is a general name for all martial arts which exist in China. Different names were used for the same purpose at different times – ui, goshu etc. – that’s why it’s useless to search for a deep philosophical sense in this name.
In Russian it happened so, that the name “kung fu” is mostly used for martial art, and the name “wushu” – for a complex of gymnastic exercises, though they together form a single common system of physical and spiritual improvement. According to the jocular definition “Kung fu is wushu done rapidly”.
Shaolin Wushu, Shaolin Chuan (the full name - «Shaolin-Si Chuan-Shu») is a traditional name for the art of hand-to-hand fight and skill in armor handling which was born or developed in the Buddhist Temple of Sunshan Shaolin, which is situated in the Chinese province Henan (administrative center – Chzhenchzhow) in the Denfan district.
